Placki Ziemniaczane (Polish Potato Pancakes)

GROUP A: Poland

First Country and first post for my European Championships Kitchen is this very tasty Polish recipe for potato pancakes. Can be eaten at any time of the day but for myself they are always on the weekend brunch menu with a poached egg on top.

Learn how to poach an egg here:

Makes 4 medium sized pancakes (or 2 huge ones like mine)

Ingredients
6 medium sized potatoes
1 onion
Clove of garlic
2 Tblp white flour
1 egg
Salt & pepper
Sunflower oil

Cooking untensils
Grate

Sharp knife
Chopping Board
Sieve
Mixing bowl
Frying pan

Preparation

- Peel the skins off your potatoes and wash clean
- Grate your potatoes
- Wrap in a clean tea towel until all moisture is removed
- Finely chop your onion & garlic

Method/Cooking

- Transfer potatoes to a large bowl and mix together with the chopped onions, garlic & egg
- Sieve your white flour and mix until all moisture has been removed
- Transfer to smaller balls for cooking (the smaller the ball the thinner the pancake)

- Preheat a frying pan to medium-high and add your oil
- Cook pancake until golden brown on each side.

- Eat as desired, personally I like to place a poached egg on top

SMACZNEGO!!!
